Why is the world obsessed with anime?

 

Anime in simple terms is animated content that originated from Japan. Anime today is something that almost everyone knows about today but this wasn't the case until just a few years ago. Anime today has millions of viewers and more importantly a rapidly increasing market. As more and more anime series started getting subbed and dubbed, it made anime easily accessible to, initially the US market and then the rest of the world. The number of anime viewers and fans has drastically increased all around the world in the past decade, the question is why? Why is anime so popular?

One of the major reasons is the accessibility of it, initially watching anime meant the need to import dvds and cds but today its available on most globally famous streaming platforms such as Netflix, amazon prime etc

Another key reason is the  fact that it is now widely subbed and dubbed in different languages. Initially anime series which had either been subbed or dubbed into English were very scarce, making it hard for it to gain an international audience. 

Anime has stood the test of time and has not only stayed at the top but it has grown exponentially in the past few decades. This is all thanks to its unique charisma which has very aptly bent to the whims of the viewers over the years.

Anime isn't just a gen z thing. It's been with us for a very long time, and it's in the heart of Japanese culture. Anime cartoons aren't just for kids, one of the foremost reasons for its traction is that it's for anyone who watches it. From adolescents to mature adults, everyone can add anime to their watch list. That's how diverse this style of animation is. 

Not only is there diversity in the age groups that enjoy this production, but there is also diversity in the genre. There's everything from horror, romance, psychological thriller to comedies. Japanese anime broke the convention that cartoons are only for kids. Anime also has the ability to shatter the confines of a genre. One anime can concomitantly be based on satire, comedy, romance and horror. The fact that it fits any and everyone's taste plays an immense role in its eminent international appeal.

Another reason for its international demand is its uniqueness. It's not like every other western cartoon. Anime creates a phenomenal world encompassing great psychological depth and upstanding morals. When you inspect and understand an anime you realise that the story has a greater meaning or a bigger picture that adds to its authenticity. All of this is accompanied by great visuals, bright colours and exemplary artistry. The way the story unfolds in an anime is breathtaking. An anime takes you on this sensational journey where you will immerse yourself into the story and characters and come out awe struck.

Anime is not just about a series of cartoons, it can also be about real problems we face in the world like suicide and depression. It's not just about “happily ever after”s and laughter. Unlike western cartoons, anime's are more serious, but they are also vivid and graphic.
